CHRISTMAS PARTY AND PRESCHOOL GRADUATION - FRIDAY DECEMBER 15

6.00 pm – 8.00 pm

It seems just a short while since the last Christmas party. Again we will feature the Graduation of the bigger Joeys as they wind down their time at The Learning Centre before heading off to primary schools throughout the district. Our favourite Jumping Castles will be back and the Joeys, led by Miss Tamha and Miss Briony, are ready to amaze you with a musical display.  And if the children are very, very good (at home and at The Learning Centre, Santa Claus may even pay us a visit during the evening.

To assist with the catering, we ask you to bring a plate to the party. As usual, a list of suitable foods will be placed in the foyer a couple of weeks before Christmas and you can put your name against your favourite or the item that you find most convenient. This helps us to provide a good variety and avoid too much duplication.

Mark the date in your Diary now. 15 December 2006

CLASS PHOTOGRAPHS 2006 - TUESDAY NOVEMBER 14

2006 school photos will be taken at the Centre on Tuesday 14 November. It is stressed that these are CLASS PHOTOS and it is always nice to have as many children as possible attend on the day.

If your child does not attend the Learning Centre on a Tuesday we are sure that your children and their classmates will appreciate your efforts to bring them to the Centre by 9.30 am on Tuesday morning.

Class photos provide precious memories and the children always enjoy looking at pictures with their classmates. We will place reminders in your Parent Pocket and hope to see as many there as possible.

FATHERS DAY GIFTS CREATED WITH LOVE

The Joeys showed considerable talent and enthusiasm for chocolate chip cookie making. The mixed the dough, added the chocolate chips and formed up the cookies before giving them to Miss Marie to bake in the kitchen.

After the cookies cooled, they were beautifully wrapped by the children and complemented by their own individually hand painted cards.

The Possums painted beautiful and colourful door knob hangers for their dads and also hand painted their individual Fathers Day cards.

We trust that all the dads appreciated the work and dedication the children and staff put into their Fathers Day presents.

POLICE VISIT 31 AUGUST

Senior Constable Martin Rigby from Moss Vale Police visited The Learning Centre on Thursday 31 August and spoke to the children about Stranger Danger and Road Traffic Safety.

It was pleasing to see the high levels of awareness that many of the children have of these issues. What was not so pleasing was the fact that many children volunteered that their parents often forget or neglect to use proper safety restraints for children in cars.

It is easy to forget things when you are in a hurry but the safety of your children is much more important than saving a few minutes on a trip.

We will concentrate on Stranger Danger and Traffic and Travel Safety as part of the children's play program over the coming weeks so don't be surprised if you have an upsurge of noisy reminders to strap them in securely.

As well as the discussions, the children enjoyed some very noisy demonstrations of the police siren and also a chance to spend some time in the back of the police wagon.

FACE PAINTING AND FANCY DRESS WEDNESDAY 30 AUGUST

What a fun day this was with the staff and the children totally involved in dress up and face decoration. Ballerinas, fairies and super heroes were favourites and the staff displayed some considerable talent in painting the children's faces to match their costumes.

Congratulations to Miss Tamha for her suggestion to have the face painting day and for the huge amount of organisation she put in to make the day such a success

Special mention has to go to our Spiderman Twins, the world's friendliest cowboy and our beautiful baby leopard.

We hope to post some pics in the Parent Gallery soon.

 MISS KRISTY IN SINGAPORE

Miss Kristy has taken leave to combine travel and work with a childcare position in Singapore for the next 12 months. Her last day at the Centre was Wednesday 9 August and she flies out for Singapore on Sunday 13 August. No more Southern Highlands winter as Singapore has average daily temperatures between 27 and 31 degrees all year round.

There were lots of hugs and cuddles for the children on her last day. In a note to parents, Miss Kristy thanked the children and the parents of The Learning Centre for their support and friendship over the past four years and told us that she will use the website to check in often and see how the children are developing.

We have promised to give her staff access to the website while she is away.

We wish her all the best in her adventures and will certainly miss her smiling face and quiet, caring manner around the Centre. If you missed Kristy and want to send her a message, her email is kristy@sheclc.com.au.
